    About Rickmansworth

This is a small town found in Southwest Hertfordshire, England. It is mainly to the north of the Grand Union Canal and the River Colne. It’s also the nearest town in Watford, for about five miles to the east, and known as the administrative seat of the Three Rivers District. That’s why in this article, you will learn more about the town of Rickmansworth and its history.

    Brief History

The Rickmansworth name came from Ryckmer, which is a Saxon name. It was also shortened to “Ricky,” like used in the annual Ricky Week celebrations. The town grew during the Victorian era and 1920 to 1930s as part of Metro-land. This is due to the expansion of the Metropolitan Railway until it became a commuter town.

Also, in July 1860, Lord Ebury had the authority to construct the single-track railway line between Rickmansworth and Watford, which later opened in October 1862. Furthermore, the town’s canal history is remembered at the end of the week with Rickmansworth Festival.

Is Rickmansworth an Ideal Place to Live?

For years, residents of Rickmansworth always praise the town because of its transport connections. There are lots of good schools and wide green spaces. All these would give a village-style vibe despite the 30-minute commute from the West End.

    What is Rickmansworth Famous for?

The town of Rickmansworth is known for its three rivers: Chess, Colne, and Gade. These rivers are a big help in the town’s economy, with growing watercress trade. One of the claims of Rickmansworth is its role in building the Wembley Stadium, as gravel from the local quarries to be used for its construction.
