Meadle is one of Buckinghamshire’s smallest villages. Situated in the heart of the Chiltern Hills, it is renowned for its picturesque scenery and abundance of wildlife.
The quaint village is home to over 75 people. Due to its size, it does not have any shops or pubs.
However, because of its location near Aylesbury and Thame, it is popular with commuters and tourists who enjoy the countryside.
Meadle has a long history, dating back to the Anglo-Saxon era. During the English Civil War, the village was caught up in the conflict between Royalist and Parliamentarian forces.
It later became home to the Quaker community. Today, most buildings and houses in Meadle are very old. The homes mainly consist of a thatched roof and a red brick wall.
Not much has changed in Meadle over the years, which is part of its charm. It is a traditional English village that has been frozen in time. Since it is also near Great Kimble and Little Kimble, some tourists who participate in the village’s Kimble Point-to-Point, a traditional horse-racing event, often visit Meadle.
There are nearby accommodation options such as the Chadwell Hill Farm Boutique Stay B&B, where visitors can enjoy the countryside views.
Farther from Meadle is Orchard View Farm Camping & Glamping, which is an excellent option for those who want to experience camping in the countryside. Adjacent to the farm is the Aylesbury Vale Natural Burial Meadow, where an expansive meadow provides a peaceful and natural final resting place.
A bus stop in the heart of Meadle, right at Stockwell Lane, provides transport to Aylesbury and Thame.
Meadle is a great place to visit if you are looking for a taste of traditional England. It is a village that has been untouched by time and offers visitors a chance to step back in history.
