About Aylesbury
Situated in the ceremonial county of Buckinghamshire, Aylesbury is a county town in South East England. It is in the central part of Buckinghamshire and is between two popular towns, Milton Keynes and High Wycombe.
In 2017, the town of Aylesbury was awarded the arden Status, an award given to towns that emphasize high-quality housing that tackles climate change and enhances our natural environment.
What Is Aylesbury Famous For?
Aylesbury is a famous holiday destination because of many factors, one of which is being close to the Chiltern Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England. Aylesbury is also known for its duck recipe and was dubbed as the town that produces the tastiest duck in the country.
There are many things to offer in town. Their rich culture and heritage both transcend their buildings, shopping centers, and typical nightlife of a present town.
Interesting Facts About Aylesbury
In 1985, an Iron Age Hill Fort was found in an excavation site. The fort dates back to the fourth century BC, and the town has long had a history of being a stronghold for various wars as it was a key site for Britons during ancient times.
King Henry VIII was responsible for turning Aylesbury into a county town. It was believed that the king made this move to win over a family’s favour when he intentionally announced its status as it knocked Buckingham out of the list.
The Friar’s Club in Aylesbury has witnessed a handful of successful music artists in this venue. It featured artists such as The Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, and even Jimi Hendrix. Another famous music artist who went to this club is David Bowie, who performed his critically-acclaimed albums and songs for the first time.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the town of Aylesbury was famous for its ducks, thanks in large part to their White-Feathered Aylesbury Ducks that were popular among farmers because their feathers can be used for quilts. As a result, breeding ducks for delicacies paved the way for Aylesbury to be popular in England, and the opening of the railway helped this even more.
